The Iwo Jima Memorial symbolized the Marine’s in every battle or conflict they have ever been in since 1775. Every battle they have ever fought in is listed around the Memorial. One of the men on the Memorial is a Native American Indian. He is not touching the flag pole because he is in the back. He requested to take his Navaho War Blanket into battle and was grated permission to do so. You can see it wrapped on the back of his belt. I thought it was an amazing thing to see. -Lauren
