The Capitol Building’s location was chosen by Pierre Charles L’Enfant and George Washington.

George Washington laid the cornerstone in 1793. The north wing was first occupied by Congress in 1800. In 1807 the south wing was occupied . Later the British burned both the north and south wing in 1814.

The building was reconstructed in 1819. Then in 1826 the added a low dome signaling the completion of the original building. Then for the next two hundred years the building has changed with the nation. The 19th century brought many new changes such as a cast iron dome and the Statue of Freedom. I liked the Rotunda and the art in it the best. It was all very nice and a great thing to see.
