The
Accelerated Reading Program at Saint Michaels is a program that our
school uses to encourage and promote reading in grades 1-8. It is our
hope that by using A.R. as a supplement to our on-going reading
curriculum, students will develop into life long readers.
A.R.
Point System
Each
accelerated reader book has an assigned point value. After a student has completed reading a book he/she takes the
test for that book. How well the student does on the test determines how
many of the books assigned points will be earned. For example, if a
student scores 100% on a test for a book worth five points, the students
would be awarded five points. If the student scores 80 %, then four
points would be earned.
A.R.
Incentives
Every
month, A.R. packages will be presented to students who have reached
certain point totals. In order to receive a package the student must
have reached the point goal at 100% of goal while also obtaining an 85% or higher
average on tests. If their test average is currently not at 85% when the
reports are run then that student will have to wait until the next month
to receive his/her incentive and will have to work to improve his/her
test average.
Computer
generated reports, used to keep track of points and test scores, will be
run one week prior to these dates to determine who is eligible for
receiving an A.R incentive.
A.R.
Shirt Days
About
once a month SMLS has an A.R. shirt day. On these days students who have
earned an A.R. shirt may wear their A.R. shirt and Jeans for Jesus ($1
donation) to school. Shirts from the current year or shirts earned in
previous years are allowed.
Students in grades 1-8 can purchase an A.R. shirt for $10.00
from the office center. A student will receive an A.R.
shirt coupon when he/she has earned 25 points and has a test average of
85% or higher. Students are then able to purchase their shirt. Watch
your PTL Calendar for specified A.R. shirt days.
