Listed below you will find books by
Author and Title that the instructional staff of SMLS recommend for summer
reading. The books on this list are available at your local library.
The following tips were taken from
a recent issue of FYI, sent to
Advantage Learning Systems by the schools Accelerated Reader Coordinator, Mary
Jo Straney. This was the advice to
parents titled Ways to Help:
1.
Help your child
find a special place to keep any
book that comes home from school or the library.
2.
Look at the TOPS
Reports your child brought home during the school term. Praise
him/her for good work or effort.
3.
Encourage your child
to read more at home. Establish a certain time and place for reading.
4.
Sign a
contract with your child to reward his or her reading effort with a
special treat, etc.
5.
Read to your
child.
6.
Listen to your
child read.
7.
Ask a few
questions about the book.
