Sun Coast Tournament Game

Saints 0  vs  ECS 4   Season Record 7-5

This was a very tough game from the start.  We had a rough time getting the ball past the half field line.  Alaina, Brittany Stutz, Nicole and Jenny faught hard in the midfield as well as our defense of Kristin, Taylor and Courtney helped keep the ECS team at bay but at half time we were down by 4 goals.  Kelsey and Hannah had some nice runs down the field but had no luck crossing to the net.  Emma, Constance and Haley tried to help the team out in the 2nd half and did a fine job of holding the other team to zero goals.  Chelsea and Haley both logged in alot of time in the goal and had some nice saves.  Whitney, Karissa and Ali also made some nice plays to help their team.  In the end we lost by four and had no goals.

I proud of our team since we lost Jessica and Katie to injuries and only had a few 8th graders we were destined to have a tough season.  With the tournament win and the win against St. Frances we managed to have a winning season.  I am looking forward to next year when we will have nine returning starters.

Sun Coast Tournament Game One

Saints 0 vs St Frances 0 KO Win  7-4

This was the nail bitter game of the season.  Both teams battled back and forth with neither team scoring in regulation time.  Makenzie did a great job in goal with several great saves.  Our defense with Kristin in Sweeper and Courtney, Nicole and Taylor in support held off several good runs by the St. Frances squad.  Brittney Stutz was our defensive leader in Stopper.  She worked hard to help our team in both defense and offense.   Alaina, Kelsey, Hannah and Jenny did their best to feed our forwards, Brittney and Ali towards knocking in some goals.   Regulation time ended and then we had two 5 minute sudden death overtimes.  The two overtime periods ran out and since there were no scores we had to do a kickoff.  Brittany, Alaina, Jenny, Brittany Stutz and Kelsey were all chosen to participate.   Brittany Brinson volunteered to go first with Alaina 2nd,  Jenny 3rd, Kelsey 4th and Brittany S. 5th.  Brittany made her goal with a nice hard kick to the left corner.  St. Frances took their turn and missed sending one over the goal.  Alaina had a nice kick to the left corner but it was snagged by the goalie.  Their next girl took their turn and Makenzie had a fine save.   Jenny took aim at the right corner and sent a fine shot that bounced into the hands of the goalie, unfortunately it was behind the line and we scored.  If their next shot missed we won.  The next girl took her shot and it went right into Makenzie’s hands so we won the game.   Great Job Girls!!!

--- CFLAA Tournament Winners ---

6 wins 4 losses for season going into Suncoast Tournament

The Lady Saints captured the CFLAA Championship on Saturday with inspired play on both offense and defense.  Because of injuries and other commitments, the Lady Saints were without several players but prevailed nonetheless.  Many thanks to Don Brinson for standing in for me, he did a great job coaching the team.

Game 1 was against Trinity with the Saints notching a 2-0 shutout.  Brittany Brinson opened the scoring with a header off of a nice assist by Karissa Holden.  Hannah Wall later followed with a powerful goal from near the 18 yard mark.  Those two goals were enough as Makenzie and Kristin combined for the shutout.  Kristin made an outstanding save near the end of the game.

Game 2 was against St. Luke.  Brittany again got the Saints off to a good start with two early goals.  They were followed by a spectacular left-footed goal by Jenny Shotwell, who, along with Whitney Letourneau and Taylor Winslow was invited to play with the varsity team.  Taylor was outstanding the entire day playing mostly at sweeper.  St. Luke never really threatened to score as Kristin and Constance contributed heavily to a dominant defensive effort.

Game 3 was against Grace St. Pete.  The Championship Game was quite a battle.  All of the girls showed a lot of heart as it was extremely hot out there.  Whitney, Emma, Jenny, Hannah, and Karissa gave the team great effort at midfield and once again the defense of Constance, Kristin, Taylor & Makenzie was outstanding.  Finally, in the last ten minutes of a scoreless game, Brittany broke the tie with a goal off an assist from Jenny.  The team made that one goal stand up and claimed another Championship for St Michael.  Congratulations Girls!

Saints 0 vs Saint Francis 1    3-4

What is it this year and losing by one point?  The lady Saints were missing several players to injuries yet almost pulled out a win.  Brittany, Hannah and Alaina had some shots on goal yet could not connect.  Makenzie did a great job in goal holding the other team at bay.  Kristin, Courtney and Lindsay were solid in defense.  Jenny Shotwell and Kelsey played two games in a row to help out their teams.  Jenny also had some shots on goal.  Constance Karissa and Emma showed outstanding effort during the game.

Saints 0 vs SWFCA 1     3-3

Tough game for our lady Saints!  We took several shots on their goal but nothing would go in.  Brittany Brinson, Alaina, Ali and Hannah had some nice chances but could not get past their defense.  Mikenzie did super in goal stopping several attempts on our goal.  Kristin, Courtney and Lindsay held their defense till the final minutes of the game when they kicked a high shot at our goal that went over Mikenzie’s fingertips.  Hannah and Kelsey did a nice job in outside wing.  We were missing 3 good players, Brittany S, Kelsey and Katie were all missing.  Once again Ali had a nice game bumping a lot against a older team.  We’ll get them next time!

Saints 2 vs Canterbury 1     3-2

We had a good game against an team that did not want to give up.  We scored early on a goal by Brittany Brinson on a corner kick by Alaina.  Brittany followed thru with another goal on an assist by Hannah.  Our defense lead by Brittany in Stopper and Kristin, Courtney and Lindsay in Defense held the other team to one goal.  Mikenzie did a great job in goal.  Great Job girls!

Saints 0 vs Saint Andrew 4      2-2

St. Andrews gave us a tough game.  We did our best against a very good team.  This team is unbeaten and is filled with 8th grade competitive players.  They said we game them the best game so far.

-------------------------------------

Saints 0 vs ECS 4      2-1

ECS was a tough team for our lady Saints.  We took several shots on their goal but could only knock one in.  Brittany Brinson had a great goal on a nice breakaway.

Saints 8 vs FMCS 1       2-0

Once again the lady Saints had a good game against Fort Myers Christian.  Goals were scored by Katie, Alaina, Jenny 2, Kristine, Hannah and Brittany Brinson all scored one goal each.  Jenny Shotwell scored two goals.  Assists came from Katie with two, Alaina and Jenny had one each.

The Saints easily won against St Ann 4-0.  Katie, Alaina knocked in a goal each with Brittany Brinson scoring two goals.  Brittany B also had two assists and Mikenzie had one.
