Main Idea and Details Go Together Paragraphs confusing. It's not clear what is the main idea. Some paragraphs make sense, but others do not. Leaves the reader confused. Most paragraphs make sense. Some sentences may need to be moved to be more clear. During editing the writer made things better. It flows smoothly and is easy to follow. x 2

Neatness

Writing is sloppy and looks rushed. Writing is somewhat neat, but some parts still need work. Writing mostly neat, with only a few areas needing improvement. Writing very neat and clean. x 1

Student thoughts are original or documented if taken from resources

It appears student has "borrowed" heavily from other sources without giving credit. Some sections appear as original student thoughts, others "borrowed" without credit. It seems the student has taken time to summarize thoughts of others while adding some of his own. Student has understood thoughts of others and responded with original thoughts of his own.

Many steps missing: pre-writing, first draft, editing, proofreading or final draft. Some steps missing or all parts included but no improvements made. All steps used, leading from one to the next even though more revising or proofreading may be needed. Student used writing process steps to move from prewriting to final draft ready for publication.
