I had to write and tell you about one of the best things to happen since my children started attending St. Michael Lutheran School. As students, my children were taught to pray before meals, to pray for each other, and to give thanks to God for everything in their lives. My children began to bring those beliefs home and to ask for my husband and I to participate in these newfound practices.
I grew up as a “non-practicing” Catholic who always believed in God but never felt like I had the education to match that belief. We didn’t attend church as a family growing up, and I knew that I didn’t want my children to grow up feeling as I did, that “something was missing”.
My husband and I chose to enroll our children at St. Michael knowing that we wanted them to have a Christian education. I never dreamed that I would learn along with them and end up on my own faith journey. It began with the memory verse, Jeremiah 29:11, which was introduced right as the building industry was crashing down around our heads and my husband (who is a builder) and I thought we were going to lose everything. I finally realized that I had to give up trying to control my life and trust that God actually did have a plan to prosper me and not to harm me.
I began praying on a regular basis and going to church. And now, 12 years later, not only do I work at St. Michael Lutheran school, but I am a small group youth leader at our home church and we talk freely and openly about God at home, in school and to anyone who will listen.
Thank you, St. Michael for changing our lives for the better!
